Ethio telecom, Ministry sign partnership agreement to settle payments via telebirr
Ethio telecom and the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration signed a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration, which will enable integration of businesses to settle fees for trade registration, license and trademark related services in a convenient and secured manner.
The agreement was signed on Monday at Ethiopian Skylight Hotel between Frehiwot Tamiru, CEO of Ethio telecom and Gebremeskel Chala, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration.
The online trade license and registration system was launched at the national level in July 2022.
The new partnership with MoTRI avails services such as new trade license, renewal, replacement, cancellation as well as registration of trade name, amendment, renewal, replacement and cancellation digitally, Frehiwot said.
Ethio telecom launched the telebirr digital payment platform in May, 2021. So far, it has acquired 24.9 million subscribers, 101 master agents, 87 thousand agents and 23,000 merchants.
In addition, the platform has been integrated with 16 banks to transfer money from Bank to telebirr and with 13 banks to transfer money from telebirr to bank and over 101.1 billion Birr has been transacted.
