Dire-Dawa gets 400 mln Birr Car Assembling Plant

An Automotive Assembly Plant built by EL Auto-Engineering and Trading PLC at a cost of 400 million Birr has been inaugurated on Saturday.

The factory was inaugurated in Dire Dawa Free Trade Zone (FTZ). The FTZ was inaugurated last week by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD).

The factory has a capacity of assembling 9000 vehicles in a year, according to Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC).  The factory’s first manufacturing shade, which was constructed at an investment of 400 million Birr was inaugurated by the presence of Sandokan Debebe, CEO of IPDC, Kedir Jewar, Mayor of Dire Dawa City Administration and other officials of IPDC and the administration.

“Inauguration of the plant shows the effort to diversify manufacturing factories areas of engagement,” Sandokan said.

He added: “The supports, which have been provided to the plant, will be continuous during the production stage”.

Likewise, Mayor Kedir pledges to extend a continuous backing to the assembling plant.

Meanwhile, Tokucha Alemayehu, Founder and President of EL Auto Engineering and Trading PLC extended his gratitude to City’s administration for its investment supports.

Construction of the second shade will be finalized after a year, he said.
