Ministry plans to garner $5.4 bln export earnings
Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI) said it has planned to garner $5.4 billion export earnings in 2022/23 fiscal year.
Ethiopia’s export trade revenue is expected to show a 30% increase in the 2022/23 fiscal year compared to the previous year export earnings of $4.12 billion.
The performance in 2021/22 showed a 13.81% increase from the previous year export income of $3.62 billion. The figure, however, was slightly less than the $4.63 billion target MoTRI set for the year.
During a meeting with exporters on Wednesday, Kassahun Gofe, State Minister of Trade and Regional Integration said that a $5.4 billion annual revenue target for export trade is 30% higher than the amount secured in 2021/23 fiscal year.
He said: “The Ministry will build on positive achievements attained in the sector in the recent years, encourage and closely work with exporters who are playing a major role in the progress, and continue its promotion efforts to secure new markets”.
“More focus will also be given to increasing the volume, variety, and quality of the export commodities to attain the export target,” he told the oilseeds and pulses exporters.
