Safaricom to launch service next month in Dire Dawa

Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC said it will launch its operations in August 2022 in Dire Dawa city ahead of Addis Abeba.

“We’ll start launching our operations in Dire Dawa in August,” Matthew Harrison-Harvey, Safaricom Ethiopia’s Chief External Affairs and Regulatory Officer said in a press conference held on Thursday.

“We do have a commercial launching program with unique experience in Dire Dawa in August 2022,” he added.

“Dire Dawa has a more-advanced 4G LTE network and that’s why we are going to launch operation there first,” Matthew said.

Safaricom further disclosed that it will launch operations in 25 cities across Ethiopia by April 2023 across 25 cities.

Safaricom also plans to cover 25% of the country in its commercial launch.

Matthew also mentioned the company has successfully been discharged its activities of building networks, establishing a win-win partnerships and building teams.
