Ethiopia sees to implement China-Horn of Africa Peace, Dev’t Conference outcomes
Ambassador Teshome Toga, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to China said Ethiopia will play an active part in implementing the outcome of the China- Horn of Africa Peace, Governance and Development Conference held last week.
In-depth discussions including regional peace, development and governance in an atmosphere of unity, candor and mutual respect were raised during the conference held last week in Sheraton Addis.
Ambassador Teshome Toga said during the conference that Ethiopia is an anchor country in the region having a stake in regional peace, stability, regional integration and development. According to Teshome, this led China, the initiator of the conference, to select Ethiopia to host this first conference.
“Ethiopia showed its political commitment to peace, security and development of the region so clearly by hosting the conference,” Teshome said.
Ethiopia has played an active role in coming up with an action plan to the outcome of the document and would also has part in the implementation of the outcome of the conference, he said.
“Ethiopia will play a significant role in implementing the outcome of the conference along with coming up with and implementing an action plan to the outcome document,” Ambassador Teshome said.
“We will work with the Horn of African nations and China to proceed further,” he added.
Ethiopia will contribute as a member country of the Horn of Africa region, in implementing the outcomes of the conference, Teshome said noting its experience in green legacy.
Climate change is one of the changes that have been affecting the region seriously. Environmental protection and then green legacy will definitely contribute in mitigating the effects of climate change.
Ethiopia is ready to share that experience it would expand it to the region, he stated.
Moreover, the initiative has been supported by all members of the countries of the region, according to Teshome. He went on to say that, “China as a partner would like to contribute in the actual implementation of the outcome but ensuring security and development is a key responsibility of the countries of the region”.
He further stressed that the region has been affected by management and natural crisis, and the Chinese government has a stake and interest in the region to come up with this initiative to solve the problems.
“We have political differences, disputes here and there. But this initiative actually creates a platform for us to come together and then discuss our differences, our problems so that we can resolve any problems that might exist among countries,” as Teshome puts it.
