Safaricom Ethiopia holds digital Sim registration demonstration process
Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia Plc (“Safaricom Ethiopia”) held a first demonstration of digital SIM registration process and a workshop on related policy matters with the National ID- Ethiopia (“NID”) and the Ethiopian Communications Authority on Tuesday.
This is part of our preparations for commercial launch this year and follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement between NID and Safaricom Ethiopia in April 2022 hat would enable the setup of joint pilots for registration and E- KYC integration, a digital customer KYC verification procedure. This partnership will contribute to meeting Ethiopia’s digital objectives.
“We thank the ECA and NID for participating in today’s digital SIM registration demonstration and workshop. This is part of our preparations for Safaricom Ethiopia’s commercial launch, providing an excellent registration process for our customers whilst ensuring compliance with the ECA’s SIM Registration Directive requirements,” said Matthew Harrison-Harvey, Chief External Affairs and Regulatory Officer of Safaricom Ethiopia.
“Working together, this will contribute to Ethiopia’s National ID programme and digital objectives,” he added.
Safaricom Ethiopia demonstrated the end-to-end digital registration process, which customers will use to join us after our commercial launch in compliance with the Communications Proclamation and the ECA’s SIM Card Registration Directive.
