Gov’t urges implementing quality policy to control trade deficit
Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration said that it is mandatory to implement a national quality policy to control Ethiopia’s trade deficit.
Ethiopia signed global trade exchange laws.
However, Endale Mekonnen, State Minister of Trade and Regional Integration said in a discussion on Thursday that poor quality of products and services is the main impediment to enhance global trade exchanges. That problem is quite observable in both local and global market.
The draft national quality policy has been tabled for discussion on Thursday at Intercontinental Addis Hotel.
Endale argues that implementing the policy has a vital role to narrow trade imbalances. “Implementing it will have a paramount importance for businesses to equip them with evidence about a quality of their products and services,” he said.
The policy is also expected to have a positive contribution to the development of industrial sector.
Ethiopia garnered $3.6 billion of export earnings last Ethiopian fiscal year. Contrarily, it imported $18 billion worth products.
