Gov’t licenses eight mining to commence coal mining

The Council of Ministers on Wednesday has given green light for the Ministry of Mines to ink an agreement with the eight companies who are interested to start production of coal in different parts of the country.

This new licensing is expected to end import of coal within one year period.

Ministry of Mines and Petroleum is also expected to sign an agreement soon with the companies following the decision.

During its meeting, the Council has reviewed the benefits of the mining projects both for the country and the communities where they produce coal.

Meanwhile, council has also decided to lift the subsidy the government has been making on fuel in six months. Also, price adjustments have been made for fuel.
