Unidentified men have attacked Derba Cement Factory PLC.

The attack was perpetrated by a group of men on December 19, 2021. They have destroyed and burned down the most expensive machineries. As a result the factory has ceased its production, sources told Origins Media.

In addition to the cement it supplies to the market, Derba Cement has been committed to supplying special quality cement to the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). It seems due to such a reason that various intentional damages have been occurring against the factory in recent times.

Gun men attacked Chinese, who are expertise at the factory a year ago. It was during the same season that Derba Midrok Cement ceased production for weeks after it suffered a cyber-attack.

Sources also witness that the factory is prone to plots.

Origins Media’s effort to speak to Haile Assegide, CEO of Derba Midrok Cement Factory on the matter bore no fruit.

Constructed at a cost of $300 million, Derba produces 2.5 million tons of cement annually. The factory is situated in Mugher Rift Valley, 70 km north-west of Addis Abeba.
