Inflation keeps soaring

The latest report from the Central Statistical Authority (CSA) disclosed that the overall inflation rate in September 2021 has reached 34.8 percent.

Last month’s rate registered a 4 percent surge from the August 2021 inflation rate, which was stood at 30.4 percent.

Food inflation, the major contributing factor for the ballooning inflation also reached 42 percent, the highest in recent years.

A continuous increase in the prices of barley, bread, rice, injera, teff, wheat and meat, among others pushed the inflation to reach over 40 percent, according to the statement issued by CSA.

Non-food items inflation on the other hand went up to 25.2 percent from 20.8 percent, a rate registered in the same period last year.
